A simple explanation of the CP565 approval notice, how we deliver it to you, and what to do after receiving your ITIN.

The IRS Issues a CP565 Notice

When the IRS approves an ITIN application, it issues a CP565 notice. This notice is the official IRS letter showing the assigned ITIN.

The IRS sends the notice by mail. The timing depends on IRS processing and postal delivery, so the approval letter may not arrive immediately after the package is delivered to the IRS.

We Scan and Email the Notice

When we receive the CP565 notice for an application handled through our office, we scan the notice and email it to you.

Keep the scanned copy for your records. You may need the ITIN for tax filing, withholding forms, payment platform verification, brokerage documentation, or other tax-related purposes.

Using Your ITIN

An ITIN is a U.S. tax identification number. It is not a Social Security Number, does not authorize work in the United States, and does not create immigration status.

Use the ITIN only where a U.S. taxpayer identification number is required for a valid tax purpose. If a platform or institution asks for supporting documentation, follow its specific verification instructions.

If You Need Help After Approval

If you need help understanding the notice, checking whether the name or date of birth is correct, or planning the next tax-related step, contact our support team.

If the IRS requests additional information before approval, send us the IRS notice so we can review what the IRS is asking for and explain the next step.
