What Is the CP565 and Why You Might Need the Original

The CP565 is the IRS notice confirming your ITIN has been assigned. When issued through our service, it is delivered to our U.S. receiving address and forwarded to you as a PDF scan.
The PDF is sufficient for most purposes. You need the physical original when:
- A bank or financial institution requires a paper document bearing your personal address — not our U.S. receiving address
- You need the letter physically present in your country (e.g., Saudi Arabia, the U.K., Japan, Hong Kong) for account opening or tax compliance
The IRS will resend a duplicate CP565 to any address you specify.
Critical distinction: This is a resend request — not an address change. A resend takes 10–14 business days. An address change is a separate, more complex process that can take up to two months. Always use the word "resend."

Hold time is typically 15–35 minutes.
---
3. Speak with the agent
The agent will verify your identity (ITIN, name, date of birth). Once verified:
State your request:
"I did not receive my CP565 notice. Could you please resend it to a new address?"
Provide your address when asked:
"The address is: [street number and name], [city], [state/province], [postal code], [country]."
Speak slowly and spell out any unusual names or street names if needed. The agent will enter the address, place you on a brief hold, and confirm the request is submitted.
If the agent refuses: End the call and dial again. Willingness to handle this request varies by agent; most will process it without issue.
